NC Zoo videos

10/31/09

Here are videos from the zoo (the pictures are posted here). How did these kids get so big so fast? Curious George is slightly over 3 1/2 ft tall, wearing size 11.5 shoe and 6-7 yr old clothes. His sisters are about 3 ft tall, wearing size 9.5 shoes (Thing 2's feet are ever so slightly bigger) and 4T clothes.

Thing 2 is wearing pink, Thing 1 is in white.



Here are the kids loving the colorful poisonous frogs. Notice Curious George holding the Zoo map. He planned our route the entire time based on which animals he wanted to see. We didn't see the entire Zoo since it is too big.



You can see in Thing 1's face how tired she is and hungry. Curious George's excitement is still going strong here. He loves animals! He has told us many times that he wants to be a Zoologist and Entomologist...among many other things of course.

NC Zoo (10/31/09)

With Trick or Treating out of the way a few days prior, we were able to enjoy the Zoo on Halloween. The forecast was rain starting midday, but it actually started in the morning. But we went ahead with the plan to go to NC Zoo. Good thing, too. There was barely anyone around!

Thing 1 guzzling water. This was about 2pm. The girls were tired but were absolute troopers. She's wearing a necklace she won by tossing bean bags through a small hole (a fund raising for the Bats part of the Zoo).

Trick or treat! (10/29/09)

The area here is not trick or treating friendly, so we found a nice substitute. One of the local malls hosted a trick or treat even on Oct. 29th, so we dressed up everyone and went. They had a lot of fun!

Thing 2 is a princess, Thing 1 is a witch and Curious George is a pirate king. Curious George has planned out his costume months in advance, so it was only a matter of finding one he was happy about. On a side note, he has actually planned out costumes for the next 2-3 halloweens. The girls' costumes were a matter of convenience. The weekend before, we went out to the stores and happen to find these 2 at BabiesRUs at 50% off. That makes momma happy! It may not be so obvious, but they are a little small though. They are both sized 36 months. They really need 48 months, but such is the circumstance when you shop late.

Oh, I almost forgot. While shopping for swords that go with Curious George's pirate costume, he had to buy 2 extra ones for his sisters. It may be a tradition starting from Halloween of 2008, when even as fairies, Curious George had to have his sisters hold glowing swords.

We invaded the first bath of stores and the girls were busy planning on eating the candies already. Thank goodness for some candies without milk!

Halloween!

We did pretty good last night. We definitely made it to more houses than last year, mainly because the boy wanted to go go go! We had to leave our candy out the front door because we were out the whole night. Unfortunately, it didn't look like many kids came by. The wagon came in very handy for the our strawberry fairy and tulip fairy. Daddy and I just carried them to the front doors when Big Brother was ready to ring the bell.

Big Brother was Star Wars all the way. He had a Star Wars gun, which he got tired of holding and gave to his sisters. He also had the light saber with him, which turned out to be pretty useful. It made him very visible in the dark. In between houses, the fairies got busy poking and hitting each other with the light saber and Star Wars gun when Big Brother got tired of holding them.

We were all pooped by the time we came back home. Daddy and I wished we were like the other families who drove between houses. Those are smart parents!

Getting ready to head out!

It took many trips from the porch to the house (jackets? no jackets? flashlight? reflective tape? where are the treat buckets?), but we finally made it out.

They were all pretty tired by the time we got back. The Fairies were sleepy, Big Brother was also sleepy but too excited about the candies.

Is it too much for a mom to ask for one shot where they are all looking at the camera?

It's war at this point. The girls were just fascinated by the pretty little candies, but Big Brother seemed to think they were taking his. It didn't matter how many times we explained that they were not going to eat them!

techno gears mega marble

Aside from Soccer, what occupied our weekend? Well, there was the Techno Gears Mega Marble that the boy saw at Costco. He actually wanted it more than the big Tonka helicopter (which is now in his Santa list), if you can believe it. I was chosen to be the play buddy for this one, so at 7AM, we woke up bright and early to start assembling it. It took us (me and the boy) 5 hours, until finally I was getting cross-eyed and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong at one point. I called Daddy to finish the rest (it took 1 more hour to finally finish). But both Daddy and I couldn't believe the attention and dedication the boy put into it though.

We also had a new chore chart put into effect. The boy refuses to do things himself (like dressing, going to the bathroom, etc) so after very long planning, we finally have a responsiblity chart to get him motivated (stickers for reward).

Oh, and we also bought a costume. For the past couple of years, we've bought costume days before Halloween and end up scrambling around. This year, we thought it best to buy early. But early isn't always best. Now the boy wants to wear it all day long. I took a picture, but I thought against posting it so that it can be a surprise. But I will say one thing, or maybe 2. Star Wars.

Child Labor

It is almost Thanksgiving and we've just only taken our Halloween decorations away. Wait. Did I say we? I meant Matty. Do you think we're breaking any child labor laws 'round this here part?
